In 2019 MRWA declared a climate emergency and subsequently produced a Climate Action Plan followed by the development of Carbon Reporting Tool in 2020.
Our Carbon Reports calculate baseline carbon emissions, set carbon reduction objectives and identify a series of carbon reduction projects.
Our first Carbon Report in 2020/21 established that the emissions associated with operational activities were approximately 27,000 CO2e. This reflects the Authority’s and Contractors emissions for which we are responsible. In 2021/22, our carbon emissions were reduced to approximately 25,700 tonnes of CO2e, which was 1,300 tonnes less than the previous year.
