Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority takes the lead in household waste management, recycling, waste prevention and re-use across Merseyside.
We operate (via a contract with Veolia) 14 Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRC’s) to householders in the Merseyside area wishing to dispose of their own waste. The Recycling Centres are available for local residents to dispose/recycle their household waste. We also run a Van Permit Scheme at the Centres, asbestos disposal and hazardous waste disposal, as well as two Re-Use Shops at our Old Swan and South Sefton Recycling Centres. These are in addition to the waste collection and recycling schemes that are provided by individual local authorities. We are also responsible for seven closed landfill sites across Merseyside.
Merseyside Recycling Guidelines
The councils of Merseyside and Halton offer full recycling collections from households. The details are available in this downloadable document – Merseyside Recycling Guidelines 2017 (pdf 1mb) – which is a comprehensive guide to what can and can’t be recycled from Merseyside and Halton homes.
