Salary £70,425 to £73,925

At Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority we work with our partners in developing strategies for waste and resource management in Merseyside and Halton – from encouraging waste prevention, re-use and recycling, educating the local community through our Recycling Discovery Centres, and creating energy from waste. We work across the North West, the UK and Europe, with our partners including, District Councils, schools, charities and community organisations, and international companies.

To help us and our partners shape the future of waste and resource management in the Liverpool City Region we are recruiting for:

The Assistant Director, Procurement & Service Innovation will play a key role in the shaping and development of new services; future procurement and delivery of the Authority’s major treatment and disposal contracts, re-use contracts and other waste treatment contracts and ongoing service innovation and improvements.

Working across all disciplines, and with our partners, this role will develop and deliver service innovations in the light of strategic objectives and wider LCR Strategic Waste Partnership and City Region Climate and Social Value and Clean Growth aims. As such you will have demonstrable experience of building proactive, mutually beneficial, successful relationships both internally and externally.

You will be responsible for ensuring that all procurement management arrangements are robust, proactive and run in line with best practice and legal requirements, along with managing the appointment and procurement of legal, financial and technical advisors where necessary.

You will have a proven background in procuring large contracts, have excellent commercial acumen, strong analytical capabilities and an eye for detail. You will ensure that value for money; quality services; reduced environmental impacts; and improved social value, underpin your approach.

Experience of working within the waste industry would be beneficial.
