Merseyside’s waste officers have teamed up to give away 140 tonnes of free compost next weekend (15/16 March).

Merseyside householders will be able to pick up the free compost which they can use on their gardens to help improve the nutrient level and structure of soil, or to add to their home composters.

The giveaway events – arranged by the five Merseyside District Councils and Merseyside Waste Disposal Authority – have been organised to help reduce the amount of reusable waste that is currently going to landfill.

Councillor Kevin Cluskey, Chairperson of Merseyside Waste Disposal Authority (MWDA), said: “These compost giveaways are always a big success so we’d advise people to get along in good time.”
