Merseyside Waste Disposal Authority

Waste Strategy

The Joint Municipal Waste Management Strategy for Merseyside sets out the guiding principles for the delivery of waste management in the region between 2008 and 2020.

The Strategy represents the direction taken by the Merseyside and Halton Waste Partnership (MHWP), and so is the agreed view of the following authorities:

Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council
Liverpool City Council
Merseyside Waste Disposal Authority
Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council
St Helens Metropolitan Borough Council
Metropolitan Borough of Wirral

The MWP has recently expanded to include Halton Borough Council, which has a separate but aligned Strategy and both are working together in key areas such as procuring the use of residual waste recovery infrastructure.

In this section we also look at the Strategies for the Northwest, UK and the European Union, which all have an impact of Merseyside's Strategy.
